About Me

The intention behind my sabbatical post 5 years at Uber is truly self-care.  If you're here reading along, it's redundant to ruminate on the countless time and energy and consideration I've spent towards nurturing the most important areas of my life:  career, friendships, relationships, and family (I'm getting better with age - I promise, Mom & Dad!).  As a natural giver, I found joy in just that.  But you all know me well and because somewhere on that list lacks an important category (starts with an "m" ends with an "e" 😬) I'll be taking advantage of an opportunity that Uber has granted... three months off!  (Can I get a "WhoO-hOo!")  So without further pause, let me tell you what I'll be up to for what I feel will be an extraordinary chance to rest, relax, and refine.

I've always loved traveling and have been lucky to have done a lot of it in my life.  So when thinking about how I wanted to spend my three months off, I realized that though yes, I have so much more of the world to see, there is a particular goal I have in mind for these three months.  Speed and constant movement is not what I need.  In fact, it's quite the opposite.  As I track my journey, this blog is meant for some epic self reflections.  Maybe it won't always be "epic," but my daily musings will hopefully allow me to look back on what I've been able to accomplish during this time and remember the joy of just the day to day.  I've been working a lot these past two years on having more self-compassion (the kind I so easily advise for others, yet forget to practice for myself).  Yes, giving myself more pats on the back vs being so self-critical.  So after 5 years of hustlin' my way at Uber, this is going to be the biggest fucking pat on the back of them all.  Why?  Because I deserve it.  BRING. ON. THEM. PATS.

why travel with salt?

Salt (besides being absolutely delicious! c'mon... have you seen my collection?!) has a number of meanings.  From a Biblical sense to historical ancient greek practices to modern day usage (check out this himalayan salt sauna), salt has always been a substance rich in symbolism.  Salt is seen as a necessity of life and was used in many cultures as a seasoning, a preservative, a disinfectant, a component of ceremonial offerings, and as a unit of exchange.  Today, there is even discussion of salt baths / salt saunas having spiritual and mindfulness benefits.  Spiritually speaking, salt is considered the "great neutralizer."  It can help cleanse, heal, and balance energy while repelling negative vibrations.  Cue the "ooooh's" and "ahhh's" and perhaps side-eyes... 😌

To me, salt is my choice of seasoning.  Whether in cooking (yes, you all know this) to how I want to view this time off; salt represents added flavor and a new found flare in the experience of life.  It symbolizes zest and vigor and an elevated sense of individualism, life, and adventures of healing that is beneficial to the mind, body, and soul.  As my interpretation of salt is wide ranging; it is not one or the other.  It is open-ended.  It is all encompassing of the pursuit of living life with salt, traveling with salt, and the idea of enriching my experiences with the same zest and flavor that I'd sprinkle (or perhaps heavy-handedly dash 😋) on any chicken wing or casserole in my kitchen to make it taste all the better.
